Acciona Energía (Alcobendas, Spain) has announced the start of commercial operations at Forty Mile Wind Farm (280 megawatts) in Alberta, Canada, one of Canada’s 10 largest wind farms and the largest facility of its kind that Acciona Energía has built to date in North America.

Forty Mile features 49 Nordex (Hamburg, Germany) turbines, each with a capacity of 5.7 megawatts and a tower height of 108 meters. The wind farm will reduce CO2 emissions by 600,000 metric tons per year, equivalent to planting 25 million trees.

Beyond delivering clean energy, the Forty Mile wind farm has a direct positive economic impact on the local communities where the project is located. Not only will it create direct jobs during peak construction, but the project is expected to contribute more than €85 million in property tax revenues over its lifetime, benefiting public services and local communities, and it is providing financial support to local nonprofit organizations.

Acciona Energía has been operating in North America for 20 years, with a current installed capacity of 3.45 gigawatts of renewable energy in different technologies, including solar, concentrated solar power, wind and battery energy storage system (BESS).
